Euroscience and FNAC open the Science Café for 2010, inviting us to a series of meetings which will let us navigate the scientific universe. Relaxed, "coffee" mood and scientific approaches: this is the Science Cafe! First topic of the year: the origins of zodiac signs and constellations. The discussion will be lead by Stavros Dimitrakoudis. Let's track down the history of zodiac signs and constellations, from its dawn, in Mesopotamia, up to our era, when the belief that constellations define people's life has become quite popular. Where do star signs come from? How did their names come up? Does Taurus have the same age with Aries? Is Scorpio really 3.000 years old?

Εurope Direct, the Centre of European Information of the Region of Ionian Islands and the Greek Regional Section of Euroscience are organizing a working meeting on Monday 23 November, 17:00 pm, on the following topic: "Innovation and Regional Development".

EuroSiS Webmapping: The results PDF Print E-mail

The SiS maps for different european countries are on line and you can find them at http://webatlas.fr/exhibition/eurosis/

 

The collection of SiS-maps include themes and actors at different levels of analysis (common European themes, national and national neighbourhoods SIS themes, particular themes through national and European dimensions). These maps also represent a schematic common description and a collective vocabulary for resources description among the 12 NCPs involved.

EuroSiS mapping project is based on:

A) Use of visualization for communication/promotion of EuroSiS project
B) Production of graphical synthesis of large sets of data
C) Extraction of visual patterns from web data analysis (centre, periphery, clusters, levels of hierarchy, borders...)
D) With different levels of data (zoom) and analysis of SIS European themes.
E) And preparing an information archiving process on specific topics and, beyond, and possible Web Information System (or portal) dedicated to European SIS domains.

ESME 2009 is organised by Euroscience Greek Regional Section. It is the first in a series of biennial events, dedicated to scientific research and innovation. ESME provides a platform for dialogue on science and technology, society and policy, following the pattern of the Euroscience Open Forum, while focusing on the specific characteristics and needs of the Mediterranean region.

Euroscience Mediterranean Event 2009 aims at bringing together scientists and young researchers, senior government officials, policy makers, NGOs, academics and science communicators from all fields of science, thus providing a unique networking opportunity for all interested parties. Through keynote lectures, selected workshops, papers and exhibition sessions, ESME 2009 intends to assess the challenges facing the Mediterranean area's scientific development and to focus on the future opportunities while featuring the best practices.
